Shedding a Little Light

“He who sings, prays twice.” St. Augustine

“It is better to be a child of God than king of the whole world.”
St. Aloysius Gonzaga

“No one should follow what he considers to be good for himself, but rather what seems good for another. Let them put Christ before all else; and may he lead us all to everlasting life.”
St. Benedict

“Start being brave about everything, driving out darkness and spreading light as well. Do not look at your weakness but realize that in Christ crucified you can do everything.”
St. Catherine of Siena

Today is the feast of All Saints and tomorrow is All Souls’ Day.

This is a time for remembering the lives of those Holy Ones who served the Lord with the greatest sacrifice of their lives as martyrs. Those who served the Lord through miracles in God’s name, both large and small. Those who have left a legacy of wisdom and love for our Lord throughout their lives.

Look up your name saint. When is their feast day? What are they the patron saint of? Is there a famous quote or teaching attributed to them? Then go beyond your own saint and read books on the lives of other saints. Learn about the lives and legacies of those who have lived in God.

Also remember the lives of all those family and friends who have gone to the Lord ahead of us. Hold them in your heart and mind. Pray for them today and throughout the month of November. Tell their stories. Visit their graves. Light a candle. Celebrate the special times you had with them while they were here with you. Be joyful for the life they had and that they are now with God waiting for a joyful homecoming when we will all be together again…

Keep Living in the Light!
